Asinde Brenda Suubi has been declared winner of the Iganga woman MP by-election, beating her FDC counterpart Nantale Mariam Naigaga.
The District Returning Officer Ms. Ataho Mercy declared Asinde the winner at 03:05am at the district headquarters.
Her win is however attributed to President Museveni’s last hour campaigns on Monday at four different venues.
Iganga district seems to haver responded positively to the last minute call by the party National Chairman by voting NRM in the by-elections yesterday.
Out of the 16 Sub Counties, NRM won 14 including the two Divisions (Northern and Central) within the Municipality.
Asinde Brenda (NRM) polled 43,197, followed by rival Nantale Mariam (FDC) with 24,077, independent candidates Babirye Asha, Kakerewe Aziza and Kwagala Oliver polled 7,052, 689 and 1,212 respectively.
NRM's Asinde Brenda defeated her main challenger Ms. Nantale on a difference of 19,120 votes.
