The Democratic Party candidate Robinah Ssentongo, is the winner of the Kyotera district parliamentary seat. She emerged winner of the elections held on Thursday.
According to the final results declared by Leticia Nantabo, the greater Masaka Region Returning Officer, Ssentongo polled 21,731 votes to beat her main challenger, Rachael Nakitende from the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party who polled 15,511 votes.
Other candidates are; Cissy Nantongo, an independent who polled 3,272 votes followed by Phirista Nassali Nakato of Forum for Democratic Change who managed 2,224 votes while another independent Joweriah Nabaale had only 266 votes.
The District chairperson's seat was however taken by Patrick Kintu Kisekulo, the NRM candidate after defeating four others. Kisekulo polled 19,481 votes, Democratic Party candidate Tom Darlington Balloja got 10,080 votes, while independent candidate Charles Lubega Zziridamu, got 10,692 votes.
Both winners Robinah Ssentongo and Patrick Kintu Kisekulo were at the tally centre with their supporters while only Charles Lubega Zziridamu was the only loser present.
Kintu Kisekulo, however, noted that he is happy that he has captured the chair. He promised to ensure Kyotera becomes a model district.Kyotera district was curved out of Rakai district and it started operational in July this year.
