The State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of children and youth affairs has promised to launch a foundation for musicians' rehabilitation.
Minister Balaam explained that he will work together with the Uganda National Cultural Centre and the Minister in charge of Culture, Peace Mutuuzo, to secure funding to run the foundation.
He aims to rehabilitate all musicians who are struggling with drug addiction because they will soon lose their lives if not attended to.
"I will work with the UNCC board and ask Bebe Cool and the chairman of the board to find them a house. We shall go and find all those struggling with addiction problems and lock them up in that house. We shall rehabilitate them forcefully because we can't afford to lose talents to drugs. So as a minister of the youth, I will take this to the government and work together with the Minister of Culture to make it a rehabilitation center for artists," he said in an interview with Sanyuka Television.
Balaam believes a lot of artists are struggling with addiction and endanger their lives yet they would be very useful to the country if they quit drugs.
