Earlier this week, the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), under the leadership of its Vice Chairperson Phina Mugerwa, also known as Masanyalaze, banned Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazzo from performing due to their vulgar lyrics.
The UNCC also issued warnings to Gloria Bugie, Shakira Shakira, and Rita Dancehall over their skimpy attire.
In response, struggling musician Shakira Shakira has criticized Phina Masanyalaze, claiming she is merely seeking a musical comeback after her career stalled.
Shakira Shakira alleged that Phina Masanyalaze never gained much from her own career and is envious of current artists who are succeeding in the same industry where she fell short.
"She used to call herself the Ugandan Shakira, which means she was inspired by the original Shakira. She didn’t benefit from her career back then, and I think she’s now just looking for a comeback," Shakira Shakira said in an interview with a local television station.
Shakira Shakira further stated that she will not apologize, as demanded by the UNCC.
"I don’t have a reason to apologize for my music because I make it for my fans. I cannot control how someone interprets my music," she added.
