It didn't serve as expected. But rather familiar. Uganda Cranes are pitted with Mali, Egypt and Ghana in Group D of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations draw was conducted on Wednesday night in Gabon capital Libreville.
The Cranes, returning for the first time to the continental football in 39 years, avoided several giants including holders Ivory Coast, Algeria and Cameroon.
But they were the second nation to be placed in the last pool after four-time winners Ghana.
Cranes open up Afcon against Ghana's Black Stars on January 17 at Stade de Port-Gentil, Port-Gentil.
Then Cranes will play against the record winners Egyptian Pharaohs on January 21 at the same venue.
The new-look Egyptian side, tutored by Argentine Hector Cuper, is returning to the Afcon for the first time since winning the seventh African title in Angola six years ago.
