News coming in from the eastern district of Jinja indicates that little fancied Jonas Kansiime has emerged winner of the Source of the Nile Rally on Sunday.
Ronald Ssebuguzi came in second despite a clean sweep on Saturday in the Super Special Stage at the Agricultural Showgrounds and Kansiime, in his Subaru N12, had finished 10th overall.. At the previous race, 2005 and 2007 NRC title holder Ssebuguzi finished behind Kikankane whereas Fred Wampamba was third with Wycliffe Bukenya and Kansiime completing the top five.
Favourites Duncan Mubiru, Wycliff Bukenya and Fred Wampanda retired so early.
Bukenya, who finished last on Saturday due to an aborted run, broke his shock absorbers on Sunday in the last section, so was Kikankane.
However, there was a reported fatal accident that reportedly claimed two lives on spot. Reports indicate that the accident was due to a hit and run spectator.
Last year’s winner Jas Mangat and Shafiq Ssemujju, who finished sixth in Mbarara both missed the even.
