Nahurira Amos a.k.a. Popman Kabuga is a Ugandan artist, songwriter born June 25th, 1996, in Kabuga, Kamwenge-western Uganda. Popman has enjoyed tremendous success in afropop, hiphop and Dancehall music.
He is a highly versatile afropop artiste who can as well feature in the Hiphop, and dancehall genres. Popman grew up in Kabuga Kamwenge, where he was raised by his father and mother, and began singing in church as a child. The vocal talents of popman have been noted since his humble beginnings.
He attended to Kamwenge modern school for nursery to P.6, then completed primary seven at Kamwenge railways primary school in 2008. He later joined Kamwenge secondary school for S1 and S.2 then later joined Kamwenge secondary and vocational school where he completed his O’level.
The financial instability at home made him move to Kabale and worked at Bunyonyi overland resort and Royal Supermarkets for 2 years looking for money to push him to high school.
He returned home and joined high school at Kamwenge secondary and vocation school where he completed A’level in 2016. According to Popman Kabuga, tough moments couldn’t stop him from writing music, and singing. He kept on wishing that one day he could do it of which he has at least tried to chase by now.
Popman was inspired to become a musician by the songs he used to listen to in his father’s fm radio receiver. Among others, Popmans’ parents have been the source of his motivation in pursuing his musical ambitions right away from church choir to school chapels and others.
However, it was in High School that his love for music was developed and nurtured. He recorded his first song “Mumumpe” at the age of 18 at Kasese guide records in 2016 and his next song “Mpangare” at the age of 19 in Alpha music, Mbarara.
After recording Mpangare, Lubega Dan aka Dj western (the incredible) fell in love with the song and promised to lift him up. Popman was signed to Vega Music Empire in 2017 of which Dj western is the director.
October 2017 came with another “Bring it on” bang that has aired Western and southern Uganda and parts of Rwanda and Tanzania. The song features in Runyankole, Kiswahili, Jamaican partois and English and, its dominating clubs in western Uganda.
Popman music first gained popularity with hit “Mpangare” dominating Western Ugandan airwaves as one of the most frequently requested, loved and dedicated song on popular radio stations such as Rwenzori fm Eiraka radio, Endigito radio, Voice of Kamwenge, Radio West among others.
Popman outlook is lifting western Ugandas music to the national and international level and the achievement has been registered.
