Buganda Kingdom has donated UGX100 Million to the National COVID-19 Task Force. This was revealed in a press conference held this morning by officials from the Kingdom at Office of the Prime Minister, OPM in Kampala.
Led by Prince Wasajja, the officials said they were sent by Owek. Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
The cheque was handed over by Prince Wasajja to the COVID19 Response Team headed by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda at OPM on Tuesday morning.
Prince Wasajja said that Ugandans know what is supposed to be done to stop the spread of COVID19. And that the Kingdom supports and appreciates members of public who have adhered to the call of the president to stay home.
“We should all stay vigilant, we know there are sacrifices being made but we shall overcome this pandemic. I believe Uganda has the resources to overcome this. I assure you of the support of the Kabaka and the people of Buganda” he noted.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda says an account will be opened in Stanbic Bank for private companies and individuals who may want to make donations, to send through money.
“I want to thank all the people in and out of Uganda who have contributed to this. It is this collective effort that will help us succeed” Rugunda said.
According to Dr. Rugunda, the president will this week appoint a team to look after the funds that are being collected, to make sure they serve the intended purpose. Government needs money to buy food for the vulnerable and medical supplies in the fight against CoronaVirus.
