The Police in Kabale have in custody two people who were caught red handed cutting off flesh on a dead body, and are now being charged with disturbing peace of the dead.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate, identifies the suspects as 40-year-old Guderiya Mbabeka and 50-year-old Gaudesio Tizihirwayo, both residents of Kashongati cell in Hamurwa Sub County in Kabale district.
According to residents, the two switched off light in a room where a dead man, the late Rodovic Kasimbazi’s body was being kept prior to the burial, and cut off his toes and back of his head.
The body parts have since gone missing as some people suspect they could have eaten them.
The action drew protests from members of the deceased's family and residents who attempted to lynch the suspects.
The cannibals would later be saved by officers from Hamurwa Police post who quickly rescued them from the wrath of the residents.
Maate explains that the two witches are currently detained at Kabale central Police station, while police has launched inquiries into the incident to establish the motive of the suspects.
