25-year-old Geoffrey Okwir, a resident of Amiru village in Dokolo district will not be sitting well in a long time after he was shot in the buttocks by a prison warder at Koroto Central Government Prision on New Year’s Day.
According to Aminsi Kayondo the area DPC, Amir was shot when he attempted to break into the prison after failing to find his way home.
Kayondo explains that the warder on duty who did not know about Okwir’s drunkenness, warned him several times against trying to force his way into the prison at 4am, in vain.
The warder later opened fire, injuring Okwir on the buttocks before realizing the latter was just drunk and had lost his way home.
The drunkard was later rushed to Dokolo Health Centre IV where he is nursing his bullet injuries. Residents said it was not the first time Okwir had lost his way home, while others wondered how several inmates are looking for a way out, while Okwir was looking to break in
