We're told the Escalade was going down Canon Drive at a fast clip, trying to lose the photog, when a BMW was pulling out of a parking structure near Bouchon restaurant. An eyewitness tells us ... the BMW misjudged the speed of the Escalade and smashed into it.
We're told Bieber almost immediately got out of the SUV and into another car and sped off.
“It’s a not injury traffic accident, meaning no one was injured,” Beverly Hills policeSgt. Robert Maycott tellsHollywoodLife.comEXCLUSIVELY. “There was an SUV and another unknown vehicle involved. None of my officers saw Mr. Justin Bieber.”
Thank goodness Justin is okay! Another source tells HollywoodLife.comEXCLUSIVELY that he fled the scene not because of any wrongdoing on his part, but because “it is a part of his security detail to get him out of danger at all times — they basically act like he is the president and they are his Secret Service. He would never have left had he been driving.”
Beverly Hills police Lt. Lincoln Hoshinoconfirms that it was totally legal for Justin to leave the scene of the accident.
“If he was passenger in a vehicle and he left the scene of a non-injury accident, then there’s no criminal behavior on Mr. Bieber’s part,” Lt. Hoshino tellsHollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He has no obligation to stay there.”
LA attorney Mychal Wilson adds to HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “It is not illegal to leave the scene of a car accident if you are the passenger. Justin did nothing illegal, unless he was obstructing justice by removing any relative evidence such as an open container of alcohol, drugs and/or weapons from the vehicle. The sheriff’s department will most likely review surveillance footage from nearby businesses and speak to any witnesses who saw Bieber leave the scene.”
