On early Saturday morning – 7th October 2017 - as the country was settling into a long weekend – due to the 9th October, Independence Day public holiday – several business leaders were at the crease ready to play golf.
At about 8 am, MTN Business acting General Manager, Anthony Katamba and Patrick Mweheire, CEO Stanbic Uganda teed-off to open the Stanbic and MTN Business Golf Day at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa. And for the entire day until 6 pm, business leaders in the country played golf, took a 40-minute boat ride and capped off the day by being hosted to a dinner.
It was a day when the business leaders free up and took time to relax by playing golf. Some of the business leaders that attended included, Charles Hamya, the Managing Director Multichoice Uganda, Jimmy Mugerwa the General Manager, Tullow Uganda, Mark Ocitti, Managing Director Uganda Breweries, Samuel Sejjaka, the Chairman Uganda Development Bank, Amos Nzeyi, the Chairman Crown Beverages and Uganda Manufacturers Association, John Byabagambi the minister for Karamoja affairs among others, including others from the Chinese business community.
The Lake Victoria Serena Golf Club is an ideal destination for an out of golfing experience, considering the lush green and features of the nine hole course – currently being expanded to 18 holes. The day out on the course was wrapped up by an awards dinner, followed by performances from the Cindy band, Salvador Idiringi, and Cinderella Sanyu aka Cindy. Cindy’s performance thrilled the business leaders with several songs as they sipped on several drinks.
The guest of honor, H.E. Professor (Major General (Rtd) Lekoa Solly Mollo, the South African High Commissioner to Uganda told the business leaders at the dinner, that he hoped the relaxing day of golfing may have also led to some deals being closed. He also emphasized the importance of collaborations and bringing together business minds to relax and have a good time.
“If we work together as businesses, then there is an exchange of knowledge for the betterment of society,” he said.
Additionally, Edwin Mucai, the head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Stanbic Uganda noted that both MTN and the bank had continued to collaborate in the country especially in driving the financial inclusion agenda.
Katamba, the acting General Manager MTN Business also noted that “Stanbic and MTN were committed to the development of Uganda.
