This initiative is a key component of MTN ambition 2025 strategy to support the country's digital transformation by enhancing digital literacy and inclusion, particularly among underserved communities and individuals with disabilities.
The support, valued at UGX 65 million, also includes one year of free internet access and backup inverter systems. The newly inaugurated computer lab at Tunaweza Foundation represents just one of several projects under MTN Uganda’s broader effort to bridge the digital divide and provide essential tools for success in the digital age.
Augustine Lule, the MTN Central Region Business Manager, on behalf of the Senior Manager at MTN Foundation emphasized the transformative power of technology in fostering inclusion and connectivity.
“Access to technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity,” Lule said during the handover event. “We are committed to ensuring that every Ugandan, regardless of their background or abilities, benefits from a modern connected life.”
With 77 percent of Uganda’s population under the age of 30, there is an increasing need for digital skills. However, many individuals, particularly those with disabilities, lack the opportunities to acquire these essential skills.
Victo Nalule, the Executive Director of Tunaweza Foundation, commended MTN Uganda for its support, noting its impact on vulnerable community members.
“These computers will significantly enhance our ability to equip our youth, including those with disabilities, with vital digital skills,” she said, highlighting that over 500 people will benefit from this initiative.
Ellen Masi, the U.S. Mission’s Public Affairs Counselor and the chief guest at the event, also praised MTN Uganda’s contribution to digital inclusion.
“Technology is integral to everything we do, from education to employment. By providing access to this computer lab, we are ensuring that children and youth—regardless of their background or abilities—have the tools they need to excel in the digital era,” she said.
The computer lab at Tunaweza Foundation is the first of several planned projects under MTN Foundation’s Digital Access Program. Other planned beneficiaries include Code Campus in Mbuya, St. Joseph’s Nyenga Seminary, Revival Girls in Mbarara, St. Catherine Girls in Kazo, and St. John’s Secondary School in Sheema.
With an overall investment exceeding UGX 390 million, MTN Foundation is establishing computer labs across various communities to improve ICT access and foster inclusive educational opportunities. These labs aim to provide individuals with the digital skills necessary to unlock their potential.
This initiative, which aligns with MTN Uganda’s Ambition 2025 Strategy, supports Uganda’s Vision 2040, National Development Plan III, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
