August 27th 2015, Kampala, Uganda – Total Uganda, a leading oil, gas and solar energy company, has sponsored John Consta and Susan Muwonge, two of the country’s renowned rally drivers, to participate in the Pearl of Africa Rally scheduled to take place between 29th and 30th August, 2015 in Mubende. The sponsorship package includes; fuel, lubricants and cash worth Shs6.6 million.
John Consta, is the current round six champion of the National Rally Championship (NRC) while Susan Muwonge has distinguished herself as one of the best female drivers in Uganda.
While announcing the sponsoring package at Total Uganda Head Office, Total Uganda Communication and Marketing Manager Lois Aber said Total Uganda is proud to be associated with two of the country’s most outstanding rally drivers.
“We will support the drivers with fuel, lubricants and money to assist them and their crew in preparation for the rally and related expenses,” she said. “Total Uganda will sponsor the drivers and their crew for the next remaining rallies until December 2015”.

She noted that the sponsorship of the team marks the renewal of a long term partnership with the Pearl of Africa Rally. “We see a lot of potential in the championship and we believe it will grow into bigger support in the coming season.”
Lois said; “Susan Muwonge was chosen because we have a commitment as Total to boost women in every aspect of life and motorsport being already an integral part of our business, we wanted to stand behind Susan, who as a woman has stood the taste of time in this sport. “So our sponsorship is a way of honouring her contribution and supporting her back into days of victory,” she added.
Total Uganda has been involved in Motor Rallying since 1996 sponsoring several rally drivers including Charlie Lubega, the national rally champion from 2002 to 2004, and Charles Muhangi, one of the best performing rally drivers of all times. “Our sponsorship is our commitment to the growth and development of motor rallying in Uganda. We therefore take this opportunity to wish all the drivers good luck in the rally and remind you all to remain vigilant and exercise the highest levels of safety,” Lois added.
Total Uganda has previously sponsored a number of rally events including the Pearl of Africa Rally between 1996 and 1998, the Central Motor Club rally challenge in Mukono in 2014, and the Mountain of the Moon Rally in Fort portal.
A total of 38 teams have registered for the Pearl of Africa Rally Championship. Some of the notable foreign drivers who have registered for the championship include Jaspreet Chathe from Kenya, and Jassy Sigh from Zambia. Defending Champion Omar Mayanja will seek to defend the title amid stiff competition from both local and international drivers.
