They say there's no such thing as bad publicity and that certainly seems to be the case after Solange's barney with her brother-in-law Jay Z inside a lift earlier this month. The brawl was captured on security cameras and subsequently leaked to the media by (a now unemployed) hotel worker, which showed Solange unleash a few hooks on Hov while her older sister Beyonce casually looked on.
The spat has been addressed and put behind them, or so they say, but the knock-on effect has proved to be very intriguing for Solange and has resulted in a 233% spike in her record sales. This is of little surprise to most as the Solange/Jay Z story was on the front pages of major publications all across the globe after the footage was initially leaked by TMZ.
It's beginning to look like this will be the incident which propels Solange to the big time. In addition to the upturn in her record sales, Solange is tipped to earn somewhere in excess of $8 million when she opens for Beyonce and Jay Z on the couple's upcoming 'On The Run' tour which begins in Florida in one month's time.
Not simply to be seen as 'Beyonce's little sister', Solange is a very talented artist in her own right. Slightly more indie-leaning than her sister, Solange was one of the main draws at last summer's Body & Soul festival where all reports of her performance were positive - it's just unfortunate that it took a negative incident like this to make her name more widely known.
