Comedian-turned-activist Sam Okanya, aka Sammy of the defunct Mighty Family, has revealed that his relationship with Alex Muhangi ended after he rallied support for Bobi Wine.
Sammy recounted recording videos calling for Bobi Wine’s release after his arrest during the 2021 election campaign. Alex Muhangi, the Comedy Store proprietor, asked him to take down the videos, but Sammy refused, which strained their relationship.
"Muhangi told me I would never perform on the Comedy Store stage again, and that was it," Sammy shared in an interview with a local television station.
He emphasized his admiration for Bobi Wine, saying, "Bobi Wine is my inspiration. I started following him even before he joined active politics. So, when he was arrested, I had to speak out."
However, Sammy expressed gratitude to Muhangi for the opportunities he had been given and acknowledged the political pressure Muhangi may have faced.
