National Unity Platform (NUP) President and musician Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has strongly criticized the head of Operation Wealth Creation, General Salim Saleh.
Bobi Wine accused General Saleh of disrespecting musicians, attributing it to his financial power and close relationship with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
He argued that Saleh should not control the music industry, as he lacks both the knowledge and understanding of the creative sector.
“The man Saleh sits there and disrespects artists. A guy who can’t even sing a single musical note is now the one controlling the music industry simply because he is the brother of President Museveni and has money to give out as handouts,” Bobi Wine said.
Bobi Wine’s remarks come just days after General Saleh expressed frustration with musicians frequently visiting his home in Gulu for financial assistance.
“Musicians, I am tired of you. I have to repeat this on camera. You’ve taken up too much of my time. I haven’t even had time to meet the NRM people. Can you imagine? Every morning, I’m meeting Bucha Man; in the afternoon, Ragga Dee; and in the evening, Odongo. I am tired of you people,” Saleh said.
Bobi Wine also criticized musicians for relying on government handouts, stating that it diminishes their value, respect, and independence.
“I warned you that these people will make you beggars, and you will end up being despised by those who genuinely support you. These oppressors exploit local Ugandans who have supported you as artists because your songs resonate with their struggles,” he added.
He urged musicians to stay committed to the struggles of the common people and emphasized the importance of implementing a robust copyright law to protect their work.
