Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya is facing a tough situation: he's being forced out of his office because of a huge rent hike that he and his team believe is politically motivated.

Just after Christmas, on December 28th, the landlord suddenly told Ssegirinya he had to leave by January 7th. The rent had skyrocketed from 700,000 to a whopping 2 million Ugandan shillings a month! The landlord blamed it on higher property taxes, but Ssegirinya's assistant, Alex Luswa Luwemba, says that's just an excuse. They suspect someone is trying to sabotage the MP's work.

"We were given no time to figure things out," Luswa explained, highlighting the difficult position they're in. Ssegirinya's team has even uncovered evidence suggesting political opponents and brokers might be behind the eviction, possibly because the office's location is so convenient for people to reach him.

Despite this setback, Ssegirinya isn't giving up. He's determined to continue serving his community and is actively looking for a new, more affordable office, ideally around 400,000 shillings a month.
