Ssegirinya Muhammad was born as "Richard Ssegirinya" in 1988 in the Masaka district of Uganda. He later converted from Roman Catholicism to Islam, adopting the name Muhammad.

Muhammad Ssegirinya pursued his education at Datamine Technical School, graduating with a diploma in Journalism.

In 2006, while in high school, Muhammad Ssegirinya gained popularity as a radio caller, primarily on CBS FM, branding himself "Edobozi lye Kyebando." This earned him much love and support from the people of Kawempe and Kampala in general.

In 2011, he contested for the position of Member of Parliament for Kawempe North but lost to Latif Ssebagala.

Despite losing the elections, Ssegirinya didn't give up on his volunteer work and continued his radio phone calls, regularly ending with the phrase, "Kawempe North's Next Member of Parliament."

He was eventually elected as the Lord Councillor for Kampala Capital City Authority, representing Kawempe North in 2016. He served diligently in this position, winning even more support among the electorate.

While serving as the Lord Councillor representing Kawempe North, Ssegirinya Muhammad took to social media—particularly Facebook and YouTube—sharing various political stories. He dubbed himself "Mr. Update," gaining more popularity among the youth and within opposition politics in Uganda.

In 2021, he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North on the NUP ticket, defeating nine other candidates, including the incumbent Abdulatif Ssebagala Ssengendo and former Deputy Lord Mayor Sulaiman Kidandala.

Ssegirinya Muhammad, however, didn't celebrate his win for long, as he was summoned by the police in September to answer questions related to alleged involvement in rebel activities in the Greater Masaka region. He was subsequently charged with multiple counts, including murder and attempted murder, and remanded to Kitalya Maximum Security Prison, where he spent 17 months on remand.

Ssegirinya Muhammad was released on bail in February 2023. Many believed he would resume working for his constituents, but this did not happen, as he had been in and out of the hospital for almost two years. Sadly, his health continued to deteriorate until his death this morning.

In August last year, before his death, he had announced his intention to contest again for the MP seat of Kawempe North constituency in the upcoming 2026 elections.

Ssegirinya's leadership was pro-people, and he will be remembered for his volunteer work and close engagement with his constituents.

Ssegirinya Muhammad died while still representing the people of Kawempe North constituency in Parliament on the National Unity Platform ticket.

Howwe joins the nation in mourning "Mr. Update." He will be dearly missed.

May his soul rest in peace.
