National Unity Platform won a majority of parliamentary seats in the 2021 general elections in Central Uganda, particularly in the areas of Masaka, Mityana, Wakiso, and Kampala.

However, as the NRM seeks to regain the lost support and constituencies in Buganda, Frank Gashumba believes it only stands a chance through the Patriotic League of Uganda.

He explained that members of Parliament from NUP promised voters many things and have failed to deliver. However, PLU actors should be deployed to counter the NUP promises in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

"The NUP MPs promised voters many things, but they have not delivered, leaving people disappointed. If the NRM wants to reclaim the constituencies, they need to deploy PLU. It's us who can secure the win," he explained in an interview with a local television station.

Frank Gashumba's comments came just a week after the NRM launched a strategy to win back the people of Buganda, and they believe that they will win in the 2026 general elections.

Frank Gashumba is the Vice Chairman of PLU in the Central Region.
