In March 2025, musician Bebe Cool petitioned court against Alex Muhangi over copyright infringement.
The magistrate ordered the two artists to resolve their matter out of court as Muhangi opted for mediation and reconciliation talks with Bebe Cool.
Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu issued the orders following a request by Muhangi’s lawyer, Robert Rutaro, to allow his client to resolve the dispute outside court.
However, Alex Muhagi, through his lawyers, told the court that the mediation with the Gagamel boss failed as he did not turn up for a meeting.
Robert Rutaro, Alex Muhangi's lawyer, explained that Bebe Cool made them wait for a very long night and failed to show up even after repeated promises.
"Your Honour, I am informing the court that mediation with Bebe Cool has failed. He made us wait from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM as he kept promising he was coming for a meeting and did not show up. So, mediation or reconciliation has failed," Robert Rutaro said.
New details have since emerged. Alex Muhangi’s lawyer today in court accused Bebe Cool’s wife Zuena of failing to pay for her drinks on the night her husband didn’t show up at Comedy Store.
Muhangi and his lawyer estimate a fee above 900,000 UGX for the bill that night.
Muhangi also accused Bebe Cool of taking one million Uganda shillings despite his refusal to perform.
"Alex Muhangi briefed me that Bebe Cool was given six million before his arrival at the venue. However, after refusing to perform, he returned only five million and took one million Uganda shillings, and I am planning to file a case against him," Alex Muhangi's lawyer told journalists after court proceedings.
He also claims Bebe Cool failed to pay Alex Muhangi when he featured in his "Wakayima" video, even though he promised him thirty million Uganda shillings for the job.
The court ordered them to appear again on Thursday this week for a hearing.
