The 42 year old who has been playing for Police Netball and Handball teams is said to have succumbed to Typhoid according to Police head coach Fred Mugerwa.
“She has been treating malaria for the last two weeks not until on Thursday last week when she told me that she was diagnosed with typhoid but unfortunately she was unable to fight it,” he said.
“She will be missed by the netball and handball fraternity,” he added.
Apako’s body is currently still at Rubaga mortuary and according to Mugerwa, they are searching for sh300,000 to pay the hospital bills before she is taken to her home in Bweyogerere.
“We are working closely to make sure her body is removed from the hospital before we can make other burial arrangements,” Mugerwa said.
Apako was among the 12 player on the She Cranes team that represented Uganda at the Netball World Cup two months ago.
Even though she played just one game at the World Cup, Apako remained inspirational figure amongst her teammates on the bench and after Uganda’s victory against Wales, she said.
“We are here as a team and we shall remain playing as a team no matter the losses or victories.”

She joined the Railways team in 1986 to 2000. She later joined the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball team until 2009 before joining Police.
