A Police officer in Old Taxi Park in Kampala Central Division has shot dead unidentified man accused of attempting to grab a gun from an officer on duty.
The incident occurred today at the main entrance of the Old Taxi Park after the unidentified man reportedly stabbed a police officer in the neck in an attempt to disarm him.
The officer was rushed to Mulago Hospital in critical condition, while the unidentified man’s lifeless body was also taken to the city mortuary.
The Deputy Police spokesperson, Polly Namaye, says they have withheld the name of the officer. "We suspect the deceased was not working alone. His colleagues could target the officer," she argued.
An officer deployed at the same place recorded a statement indicating that the suspect approached one of the officers pretending to seek help. "He was acting as if he needed direction, but all of a sudden he went for my colleague's gun."
An eye witness also narrated that a man attacked the officer and tried to push him to the ground but the officer fought him off, this man later stubbed the officer on the neck prompting his colleague to shoot warning shots but the man was not moved.
The officer later shot this man killing him istantly.
