Four armed robbers were on Monday shot dead during a fire exchange with police flying squad in Gangu, Busabala, Wakiso district.

The shootout happened around 5PM after flying squad officers supported by the territorial police of Katwe Police station got intelligence that the notorious robbers were hiding in one of the homes.

SSP Emilian Kayima, the political commissar and public relations officer Kampala Metropolitan police told the press at CPS this afternoon that the operation stems from a robbery that had earlier taken place on 4th August under SD REF 58/04/08/2016 where one Scovia Bamuleete, a resident of Nyanama in Wakiso District was attacked and robbed of an assortment of items some of which have been recovered.

“In this operation, an AK47 rifle No. UGPOL 5612813717 was recovered with 12 rounds of ammunition. This same gun had been robbed from a police officer in Entebbe who was waylaid while going for duty early June this year” said Kayima.

He identified the dead robbers as Mugisha Henry in his 20s, Bwambale Ronald, Kikomeko George and Lwere Joshua all in their 30s. These opened fire and shot at the officers who were trailing them. Bodies were taken to Mulago hospital for postmortem.

“We have one of the suspects in our cells whose name we will not reveal at this point and is providing us useful information that will lead us to the core of the crime. The question at hand is we must find the motive of the earlier robbery and the mastermind. Secondly, were the other 18 ammunition used in a robbery or they were shot last evening trying to kill our officers on duty? We shall find that out soon” Kayima added.

He asked members of the public to always report crime incidents early, be vigilant and encourage neighborhood watch. “What happens around you could be a crime you need to report to authorities and time is of great escence.”
