The Police Mbarara has in their custody four notorious car vandals who had made it their business to steal people’s car parts.
These include Justus Muhereza and Derrick Wasiike, both residents of Kampala and Ismail Kiwanuka as well as Vincent Kawesa, residents of Mbarara Town.
Idi Ibin Ssenkumbi, the Rwizi regional spokesperson, says the group has been behind several cases of vandalism targeting vehicles in Mbarara Town. He adds that they would use master keys to gain entry into the vehicles and rip off several parts.
The group has also been targeting mainly radio receivers, side mirrors, lights and tires among other car parts.
Ssenkumbi explains that the group has also been plucking off vehicle number plates returning them after extorting money from their victims.
According to Ssenkumbi, shortly after their arrest, the suspects confessed to police that they have a bigger network in Kampala where their bosses help them to identify their targets. The group had so far vandalized 10 vehicles in Mbarara town within a space of one month.
Senkumbi says they have launched a manhunt for the ring leader of the group.
