Court in Gulu has sentenced an elderly woman to caution for abusing the modesty of a woman.
80-year-old Rose Layado appeared on Wednesday before Selsa Biwaka, the Gulu Grade One Magistrate who found her guilty of saying nasty words to her friend.
Prosecution told court that on October 15th, 2016, at around 8:30pm while at Lawiyadul village in Bungatira Sub County Layado used indecent words against 70-year-old Roseta Akech.
According to prosecution, the utterances undermined and lowered the dignity of women contrary to section 128 (3) of the Penal Code Act.
It states that "Any person who, intending to insult the modesty of any woman or girl, utters any word, makes any sound or gesture or exhibits any object, intending that such word or sound shall be heard, or that such gesture or object shall be seen by such woman or girl, or intrudes upon the privacy of such woman or girl, commits a misdemeanor and is liable to imprisonment for one year.
In his ruling, Selsa Biwaka, the Gulu Grade One Magistrate found the accused guilty and sentenced her to caution. He cautioned Layado against making any further utterances, saying she risks being thrown in jail.
