The Omusinga was Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere faces 11 fresh charges as he appeared for the second time before the Magistrates court in Jinja this morning.

The new charges include three charges of terrorism, murder, aggravated robbery and eight counts of attempted murder.

The King was arrested on November 27 following UPDF-led operations in Rwenzori region that culminated into the attack on the Palace of Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu. The army was reported to be searching for persons suspected to be involved in attacks in Rwenzori region. Most of these were reported to be Royal Guards in the Kingdom of Rwenzururu.

Mumbere was subsequently charged with Murder and remanded to Kirinya Government Prison until today when the charge-sheet was revised to include fresh charges.

Appearing before Magistrate John Francis Kaggwa, this morning, Mumbere and his co-accused were not allowed to take plea for the charges since the magistrate's court lacks jurisdiction over capital offenses.

Earlier, Jinja municipality was covered in sights of running battles as Police battled with crowds who converged at the magistrate's court in preparation for Mumbere's appearance.

While in Court, his legal team, led by Caleb Alaka complained about the restricted access to court prompting the magistrate to rule that access to court should not be limited to the public although security should not also be compromised.

Mumbere was remanded to Luzira prison until December 28. He was however granted access to his lawyers, cook, and close relatives. Court also directed that he gets a fridge in his room to store his drugs for diabetes as requested by his lawyers.
