The police in Gulu Police have in custody, a jilted husband accused of killing his wife for alleged infidelity.
Police identified the suspect as Abdul Lubangakene who is believed to have hit his wife, Irene Lanyero with a hand hoe to death minutes after she received a call on her mobile phone at night over the weekend.
The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, says Lubangakene fled into hiding after the incident. He says residents found the couple's one year old baby suckling the lifeless body of its mum in the morning.
According to Okema, Police suspects Lubangakene was under the influence of alcohol when he killed his wife. He was found in possession of alcohol in his hiding in Lacor trading center over the weekend.
Martin Okoyo, the Gulu District Police Commander, says Lubangakene will be arraigned in court for murder once investigations are complete.
