Monday November 13th 2017 will never be erased from minds of dozens of young men and women desperately seeking for job after they were turned away from Java House in Bugolobi Kampala when they turned up for interviews. The unsuspecting people were purportedly invited for interviews by a one Dr. Nickson Wakhungu purporting to be a human resource director at Java House.
A letter from Dr. Wakhungu, sent to Richard Ruyombya, one of the unsuspecting applicants reads; "Following your application to work with our new branch in Kampala, we are pleased to offer you employment at our branch with effect from November 13th, 2017.”
This website couldn't independently verify the claims, but it is alleged that some of the applicants lost Shillings 900,000 each to the conman for employment. He was asking them to pay money for uniforms.
The Java House Assistant Manager only identified as Alex, said a number of youths showed up on Monday morning for interviews, but they were turned away. "I can't tell how many they were because we asked security to send them away because we had not announced any jobs," Alex said.
He declined to divulge further details on the matter and referred us to Java House headquarters. A security guard from KK Security told our reporter that several people turned up for interviews by 7:00am.
Head of Security at Java House Samuel Ekuru, says young people reported, saying they had been called for interviews and they directed to seat and wait for the bosses to arrive. However, the Java House manager later informed them that they hadn't scheduled any interviews, saying the applicants could be con victims.
"They were smartly dressed and some of them had come with their application letters. When the guys of Java House said they did not know them, they left one by one," Ekuru added.
Very many youths have been conned by several people who claim to hold serious offices at a number of companies in Kampala.
Recently, a group of young ladies nearly fell into the same trap. These told Galaxy fm, that a man purporting to be the manage Serena Hotels Kampala asked them to pay 200,000 Shillings for uniforms, claiming he had found them jobs.
But before they could send the money, these young ladies sought counsel from their sisters who told them it could have been a conman playing on their minds.
When one of them called Serena hotel, they were told no such arrangement had been made and the hotel was not recruiting. Serena also informed the lady that the same conman had been doing so for over 3 months and they were looking for him.
He was pretending to be the general manager Serena Hotel Kampala, Mr. Anthony Chege. Police is yet to comment on the development.
