A dark cloud has covered Kitonya village in Bubango sub-county in Kibaale district after a 70-year-old man hacked to death his two children before committing suicide.
Erikanjiro Behangiza had also assaulted his wife according to David Otabong, the Kibaale district Police commander. Police reports indicate that Behangiza, fatally struck his children, aged between 5 and 12, using an axe.
Also, his 20–year-old wife Jennifer Kyaligonza came under attack, losing her arms which were cut off in the brutal domestic episode.
The children were rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital, but died upon arrival at the health facility, while Kyaligonza is nursing severe wounds at Kibaale Health Centre IV.
The police officer says he was informed by the LC1 chairperson, Alinda Malidard, that Behangiza was a drug addict and that he had a misunderstanding with his wife, which led to him committing the heinous act.
According to Kyaligonza, her husband demanded he be served a meal of matooke (bananas), which was not available at the time. He then furiously attacked her with a machete and axe.
