As Uganda Police force continues with investigations into the alleged kidnap of over 100 women and children that were rescued from Usafi market, parents have been denied access to their children.
It is reported that on Thursday morning, 12 parents camped at CID headquarters in Kibuli with hope of seeing their children. However they were chased away by police officers. Children and women have been recording statements since Tuesday this week.
It is during this process, that police expects to identify the children’s parents and how they ended up alone at the raided mosque.
In the wee hours of Saturday, Police and other security agencies raided a mosque at Usafi market in Kisenyi, down town Kampala and rescued 94 children and 18 women who they claimed were being held against their will.
These children have since been put into police custody as they record statements and the Ministry of Gender and Social development forges a way forward for rehabilitating the children who are believed to have been radicalized.
According to Ismail Nsubuga, one of the parents whose three children were taken during the raid, they (children) were not at the mosque, but staying with relatives in a rented house opposite the mosque.
But, Vincent Ssekate the police spokesperson in charge of CID says police will hand over the children to the parents after investigations have been completed.
