Richard Ocen, a 39-year-old resident of Adola parish, Amach Sub County Lira district will spend the next 8 years in jail for murdering his wife.
Lira High Court presided over by Lira resident Judge, Justice Alex Macky Ajiji, heard that in 2014, Ocen hit his wife Margaret Akello, with a pistol on the head, killing her instantly.
Prosecution also told court that the suspect’s jacket and a local sandal were found at the scene of the crime, before Ocen handed himself over to the police.
"Having considered the 4 years and 3 months he spent on remand and having received a plea of guilt from the accused, I, therefore, sentence him on his own plea to six years in prison," Justice Ajiji said.
The deceased relatives welcomed the judgment much as they wanted the convict to be set free since he already paid the compensation and also spent more years in prison while on remand.
