An angry mob took laws into their hands and burnt to ashes a suspected motorcycle robber in Nauyo town council in Mbale district.
According to Mathias Turyasingura, the Mbale District Police Commander, the unidentified man was torched along Mbale-Tororo road in Bukasakya Sub County in Mbale district on Tuesday afternoon.
Angry residents allegedly descended on the suspect accusing him of assaulting a Boda boda rider to death near St. Austin cathedral along Union road before making off with his motorcycle.
So, the mob also arrested the suspected thief, beat him up before gathering firewood and set fire on him, paying him in the same currency.
The mob dispersed after setting suspect on fire to avoid being arrested by police which arrived later at the scene, only to find it was too late to save him. The police condemned the mob action.
Turyasingura says three boda boda motorcyclists have been killed and five others injured seriously by iron bar hit men in Mbale district in the past one month. This has left the public angry and anxious.
