Police in Kabarole District has picked up at least 51 suspected thugs in a sweep conducted in various areas.
Jamal Kanyesigye the Kabarole District Police Commander who led the operation says the suspects were caught stealing and robbing from residents, adding that most of them have been on the police wanted list.
The West Division Gombolola Internal Security Officer-GISO, Richard Muhumuza, says the suspects have been breaking into resident’s homes, snatching mobile phones and bags from their victims.
Police says some of the suspects were also found with marijuana and stolen items like shoes and saucepans among other things.
According to Solomon Mugisa, the Acting Rwenzori West Region Police Spokesperson who also doubles as Regional Community Liaisons Officer, says at least 21 suspects have been screened are likely to be taken to court to answer a number of charges.
He advised members of the public to start moving with their national IDs to avoid being arrested since the operation is still ongoing.
