Uganda police force has trashed a post making rounds on social media alleging that there was an attack along Lugogo bypass.
“We want to inform the public that there have been no such attacks along the road as the author of the post alleges. Our teams in the CCTV command centre were monitoring the area and didn't see such incident” a statement by the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango reads.
According to Onyango, Camera supervisors have also previewed the footage to see if the officers missed the incident and they have found out that it was false.
“The photographs being circulated are old. We would like to inform the public that Lugogo Bypass is secure. We have both foot and motorized teams on ground and they coordinate with CCTV command centre to ensure that members of the public, who use the road, are secured with their property” he added.
The police spokesperson said the individual circulating the post has an intention of creating fear among the public with such baseless allegations and that this person didn't even open any case at any of the two stations that take responsibility in securing the by-pass.
Onyango urged members of the public, who may experience any criminal incident or suspicious activity to reach police on 999 emergency line or other toll-free numbers: 0800122291, 0800199193
0800199195, 0414 254561/2.
