Police arrest suspects, recover gun following foiled robbery in Namayumba

Police in Kakiri, Wakiso District in collaboration with Flying Squad Unit have recovered a gun in a bush at Kyanuna village, Namayumba Town Council on Kampala-Hoima Road. 

The development follows a case of aggravated robbery that was reported at Kakiri Police on 19/03/2021. 

According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan police, it is alleged that at around 10pm information was received from the chairman LC1 Nakitotolo village, that a one Issah Mugarura, 35, a businessman, and a resident of the same area, was attacked by three men armed with a gun. 

Mugarura had been shot on the right leg by the thugs, while two motorcycles, one Techno smart phone were stolen from him by the armed attackers. 

The two motorcycles were later recovered by the locals after a pursuit.  

The Police from Namayumba later responded and a motorcycle registration number UEQ 611E which the thugs were moving on was found abandoned.  

Owoyesigyire says police worked with the relevant agency to help identify the owners of the abandoned motorcycle. 

A number of suspects were later arrested during the operation including Isaac Kigozi who later informed police that Denis Ssekimbe was keeping the gun that was used in the foiled robbery and was the one who shot Mugarura on that fateful night.

Ssekimbe on Wednesday led the DPC Kakiri and Flying Squad Unit to where he had hidden the gun and it has been recovered.  

“We have also established that the recovered gun was stolen from Security Plus Co. LTD guards at Prount Vonstruction site at Mabanga village, Namayumba Sub-county on 15/04/2021. The gun is yet to be submitted for further forensic investigations to ascertain whether it has been involved in other crimes since it was stolen” Owoyesigyire said. 
The suspects are currently detained at Kakiri Police as investigations into the matter continue. The file will later be forwarded to the DPP for advice.
