An angry mob has Thursday attempted to lynch Reverend Mikka Lukwago, the parish priest of Kisowera Church of Uganda in Mukono district who is accused of hatching plans of evicting them from land.
Reports indicate that the priest had been trying to stop one Badru Musoke, a resident at Muduuma village from developing the family’s ancestral grave yard with cement when other residents surrounded the priest threatening to burn his car on top of beating him.
Fortunately for Lukwago, police officers attached to Mukono Police Division showed up at the scene on time and rescued and escorted him away.
According to Mukono Divisional Police Commander Ismael Kifudde, they arrested five residents involved in the fracas to help police investigate the matter thoroughly, while the building materials have also been confiscated.
Residents accused the priest of mistreating them, stopping them from developing the land despite the occupants being bonafide bibanja owners for over 30 years.
The contested land is approximately 151 acres covering the two villages of Kisowera and Muduuma, whose title is registered under Church of Uganda Mukono diocese.
