Police and Uganda People Defense Forces(UPDF) officers have been deployed at Kiwumpa village and other nearby villages to look for the killers of a police constable.

The deployment comes hours after two police constables guarding traffic officers were attacked at a checkpoint in Luwero district along the Kampala-Gulu highway.

On Monday at around 12.30 pm, the unidentified assailants armed with machetes emerged from both sides of the swampy checkpoint at Kiwumpa village and attacked the two field force officers.

One of the officers PC Ronald Busingye was cut on the back while his colleague Police Constable Josephat Twinamatsiko was hit on the head and face. PC Ronald Busingye died on his way to the hospital.

The thugs later fled the scene using a vehicle parked near Kiwumpa Church of Uganda primary school after robbing two guns from the officers. They also set ablaze a lorry parked aside.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says the attacker's motive remains unclear, although it is believed that they had targeted the two guns.

In a statement Enanga read, the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola has condemned the brutal killing and injury of the police officers.

“The IGP has extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends, relatives and workmates of the late PC Busingye Ronald. We do honor PC Busingye for his ultimate sacrifice while serving the community in Luwero and the country at large, " says Enanga.

He says Police and UPDF officers have been deployed in nearby villages to look for the killers.

“We want to assure the public that we have reinforced our teams in Luwero to help identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the brutal attack, “ says Enanga.

The other two traffic officers, who were not armed, were not targeted in the attack and they escaped from the scene unhurt.
