Police Arrest 11 Suspects, Recover Pistol used to Terrorize and Rob Victims

Police in Kampala have recovered a pistol used by a criminal gang to terrorize locals in Makindye Division.

Eleven suspected criminals have been arrested at their crime hubs in the Katale zone, Nsambya paramount areas, Kabalagala, and Katwe following a crackdown on Friday last week.

Among them were 4 notorious suspects, Atuhaire Richard, Shukura Kabengana, Richard Tumwesigye, and Ahimbise John, who were also found with an empty pistol believed to have been used to threaten their victims.  

Fred Enanga, the Uganda police spokesperson told journalists on Monday that the operation on the criminals was carried out in areas of Katale zone, St. Benedicto, and Nsambya Kevina among others.

Enanga says the thugs target their victims between 7pm and 5am in the morning.

He adds that the criminals usually target pedestrians and motorists along Nsambya road, calendar to Hash Petrol Station section, areas of Katwe Kinyoro, clock towers, and Entebbe road.  

Other suspects arrested include; Muto Nyanga, Amanyire Latifu, Lubega Moses, Musobozi Clovis, Bisulu Emmanuel, Ankunda Bright, and Katongole Moses.

Enanga says an additional 80 suspects were arrested in the subsequent operations and charged with being in possession of dangerous weapons used against the public and for being a public nuisance. 16 of the suspects were arrested from the city square and remanded).

In another development, the police in Kampala arrested two suspects involved in ride-along attacks with stones and iron bars in Nabweru.

The two suspects, Lujja Jonathan of Kyebando – Kabulengwa and Kato James of Kawempe Kutano, were arrested with a motorcycle registration number UFQ 445L Bajaj Boxer and several pavers.  

The third suspect identified as Mande of Naluvule is currently on the run.
