Kayunga Chief Magistrates’ court has convicted and sentenced two men to forty years in jail for attempting to murder a six-year-old boy.

The accused, Awali Kivumbi and Paul Ngwaswireki, both locals of Busolo Village in Kayunga district, have been on remand and were on Monday found guilty of attempted murder of the minor.

Kayunga Chief Magistrate, Sarah Tusiime sentenced the duo after circumstantial evidence and a medical report proved them guilty.

Court was told that on October 21, 2009, the minor who was then living with the grandmother, Margret Nambatya, a resident of Busolo village, discovered that his jackfruit left in the grandmother's garden had been cut and eaten

After the minor questioned Kivumbi and Ngaswireki who were lying near the jackfruit with sharp machetes, he was hit to a comma and sustained severe injuries on the head, arm, shoulder, and back. He also sustained a fractured skull, brain damage, and an injured right testis.

The convicts had earlier been acquitted prompting the prosecution to appeal the decision before the Mukono High court. Justice Margaret Mutonyi ordered a retrial leading to the conviction and subsequent sentencing of the accused.
