Police have beefed up security at Luzira secondary school following an incident in which a senior four student thumped a security guard at school to his death.
Geoffrey Mugerwa, 22, died moments after the scuffle with the student identified as Byambala who is currently in police custody at Jinja Road police station.
Byambala reportedly attacked the guard after all candidates were denied the chance to move outside the school gate following the morning exams.
Mugerwa had explained to the learners who had just concluded a paper at midday that they would only be permitted to go outside at 1:10 pm as always for lunch.
In a fit of rage, the student pounced on the school guard and started punching him severally until he was unconscious.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson says Byambala was picked up by police on Wednesday and faces charges of murder. He says Byambala is likely to miss his remaining Uganda Certificate of Examination (UCE) papers as he faces prosecution and investigations continue.
He adds that security officers have since pitched camp at the school to avert any other crime.
