Kabale University has joined their counterparts at Makerere and Kyambogo to extend opening dates from Monday August 15th and 22nd to 17th and 24th for new and continuing students respectively.
This means that the next semester will not open for another one month. Teaching and non-teaching staff at Kabale University laid down their tools last month
The university which was supposed to open on Monday August 15th for the new students and August 22nd for continuing students will open on 17th and 24th of September respectively.
Staff members laid down their tools demanding to be paid their 6 months salaries and to be added on the list of public servants since the university was transformed from private to public institution.
They had earlier on closed the university gates and classes as well as other facilities to compel government into paying their money.
Speaking to the media today, the Kabale University Governing council Chairperson, Ephraim Manzi Tumubweine, said the decision to extend opening dates is because the campus is moving from a private to a public institution.
