The Ministry of Education and Sports directed both private and public schools to immediately ban artists from hosting music concerts in schools.
In a circular released by the acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, the Egau Okuo artists have been halted temporarily until the ministry puts in place the necessary guidelines.
“The purpose of this communication, therefore, is to inform all concerned to ban performances of this nature from school grounds. Clear guidelines will soon be officially issued. Whether these schools are government or private, we have cautioned not to hire or allow any of these artists to perform in schools,” the August 1, 2022, circular reads in part.
Egau says the new guidelines will address the nature and conduct of co-curricular activities and entertainment allowed in schools. School managers will also be held responsible should they allow the same in the schools.
This development comes just days after Tororo Woman Member of Parliament, Sarah Opendi raised a matter of National importance over artists dressing and dancing indecently while performing for learners.
She cited local artiste Sheebah Kalungi, whose viral videos on social media show her dressed skimpily and doing erotic and seductive dance moves.
