22-year-old Twaha Tondwa who had passion for serving in military had travelled from the neighboring Pallisa District.
Col Stephen Mugerwa, head of recruitment’s Team 5 said Tondwa trembled and fell to the ground after an 8-kilometre run, dying later of cardiac arrest at Kamuli Hospital.
In Kampala, a recruit run berserk after jogging and nearly strangled a UPDF officer. Jonathan Muhiirwa from Kampala developed complications and charged at one of the UPDF Lieutenants, boxing him hard.
The army officer fell on the ground, only for the young man to continue attacking and hitting him repeatedly. Muhiirwa was later arrested and handed over to Kololo airstrip police.
In advertisement of the slots the army highlighted physical fitness as a key requirement for prospective recruits.
