The police have opened investigations into the shooting to death of two police officers attached to the Anti-terrorism unit at Nalufenya police barracks in Jinja district on Monday night.

Samson Lubega, the Kiira Regional Police spokesperson, identified the deceased as Police Constables Nuwamanya Simon and Wafula Godfrey.

Lubega explains that the shooting began when a group of ten police officers returned from a bar, to the barracks at around midnight and were denied entrance at the gate because it was beyond the regulated time. He notes that according to the barracks rules, all officers are supposed to be in the barracks by 10pm.

Lugega adds that the deceased opted to use a shot-cut to access the barracks leading to arguments among the officers manning the gate and those who came late. The arguments culminated into shooting leaving two of them dead.

He says that police has recovered three sub-machine guns and cartridges as exhibits and eight officers have been detained at Nalufenya police station in connection to the shooting.

Among the key suspects include Ankunda Hosea who was manning the gate, Chandia Felix, and AIP Bogere Yusuf.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mulago Hospital for autopsy.
