Songwriter, producer, and recording artist Daddy Andre has been at odds with Eddy Kenzo for over two years.

The disagreement began after the formation of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF). Andre believes the federation is a political tool of the NRM government, aimed at curbing Bobi Wine's influence in the music industry.

Andre has now accused Kenzo of giving artists false hope about the copyright law. He claimed the government is not interested in amending the law.

"Musuuza recently said he was fighting for the copyright law. That’s a commendable effort, but he should know he isn’t the first to advocate for this. I want to tell him that he is giving artists false hope because the government is not ready to take the law to Parliament for amendment," Andre said during an interview with a local television station.

In early December, Kenzo revealed that the cabinet had already approved the law and promised that it would soon be brought to Parliament, after which the President would sign it into law.

Artists, under Kenzo’s leadership, have spent over two years meeting with government officials at the UNMF offices, lobbying for amendments to the copyright law.

The copyright law was first introduced to Parliament in 2022 by Hillary Kiyaga, also known as Dr. Hilderman, who is the Shadow Minister of Culture. However, the government took over the process through the Uganda Law Reform Commission.
