KAMPALA, January 12, 2015– Crown Beverages Limited, through its flagship brand Pepsi, has launched its one-month 2015 Africa Cup of Nations campaign amidst pomp and spectacle.
The campaign, which involves a lot of initiatives and programmes, includes a consumer promotion with lots of prizes to win.
Launching the campaign, Mr Innocent Tibayeita, the head of Marketing and Sales at CBL, said Pepsi is proud to be associated with the continent’s greatest soccer showpiece.
“We are excited to be involved in this year’s AFCON. Sports is in Pepsi’s DNA and being part of Africa’s biggest football tournament provides a perfect platform for the brand to invite and inspire fans to Live for Now. It also provides an opportunity for us to interact with our customers in a relaxed environment,” Mr Tibayeita said.
"We view sponsorship of sports events such as the AFCON as part of our contribution to sport and creating much awareness, thrill, fun and excitement associated with such tournaments,” he added.
Pepsi has been involved in African football for a number of years, through player sponsorship, teams and promoting grassroots football. PepsiCo has previously sponsored top African players such as Didier Drogba, Mohamed Abu Treika and Egypt’s Amr Zaki.
Early last year, the global brand announced a 19-strong “football super squad” for 2014 as it looked to take the fizz out of the competition’s football marketing in the World Cup year. Pepsi’s partnership deal with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) runs until 2016, and covers all of CAF’s major championships.
Mr Tibayeita urged soccer fans to patronise Pepsi products since it will offer them the chance to win them exciting prizes like soda cartons, Pepsi jerseys, bags, T-shirts, and footballs, among others off the Pepsi social media platforms, radio and TV and in-bar activations.
Fans can also visit http://en.fantasy.cafonline.com to participate in the Pepsi Fantasy Football game throughout the tournament to win exciting prizes like tablets, pepsi headphones, balls and jerseys.
Crown Beverages Limited, through its various brands, supports various sports in the country including football, motocross, cricket, and volleyball.
The Africa Cup of Nations starts on January 17 until February 8 in Equatorial Guinea
