TIDAL just passed a major milestone, and Jay Z wants to celebrate.
The hip-hop mogul took to Twitter to announce that his streaming service has reached 1 million subscribers. “Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists,” tweeted Mr. Carter, adding that “TIDAL is platinum. 1,000,000 people and counting.”
But he’s not going to sit idle and count his coins. In honor of the occasion, he has announced a celebration in Brooklyn on Oct. 20. “Let’s celebrate 10/20 Brooklyn,” he concluded. Further details were not disclosed.
TIDAL has faced its share of criticism since its launch. In April, Jay Z dismissed his critics by announcing that the service had over 770,000 subscribers after being in business for less than a month.
For reference, Spotify claims to have 20 million paid subscribers, while 11 million people signed up for Apple Music’s free trial.
TIDAL is known for hosting exclusive fan experiences featuring superstars like Rihanna, J. Cole, and Jay Z, who performed a one-night-only “B-Sides” concert for subscribers in New York in May
