Makerere University Business School (MUBS) new students have all been subjected to compulsory medical examination & HIV testing as a requirement for admission. Students lined up in long queues to be tested for HIV & other diseases.
The PRO of MUBS Mr.Peter Odoki said that medical examination is now a compulsory university requirement & every student must undergo this examination before they are admitted.
Meanwhile, The Acting Principal, Assoc. Prof. Moya Musa who is also the Dean Faculty of Computing and Management Science, congratulated the fresher men and women upon having made it to Makerere University Business School. He assured them that, they had made the right choice to join the leading institution in Business and Management Education in the region.
In his remarks, Prof. Moya cautioned the students to guard against HIV/AIDS, warning that reckless behavior can lead to AIDS and betrayal to parents who have invested a lot in their lives and future to ensure that they live a good life. “Health is wealth; when you are healthy, you are productive”, he warned. One does not catch HIV through a hand shake neither is it caused by a vector, the path is known." Students were also called upon to be vigilant about the Ebola epidemic, “it could be in West Africa, but you can catch it, so be on alert”, he said.
He said this while addressing the freshmen and women for the Academic Year 2014/2015 intake, during their orientation into the School culture at the MUBS main campus, Nakawa on Thursday August 21, 2014. This is an annual event organized by the School Registrar’s Office as part of the initiation process of new students at Makerere University Business School. He further warned the students against dodging classes. “We are not going to force anyone to class. But for any student to qualify for the final examinations she/ he must have attended 75% of the lectures.” He advised the freshers to focus on academics and work hard to excel.
