Three-time Grammy Award Winner and singer, Angelique Kidjo has finally arrived in Kampala a day ahead of the International World Jazz Day concert slated for Tuesday, April 30.
The much-admired music sensation was picked by jazz musician, Isaiah Katumwa, media and fans at the Entebbe International Airport last night with a day to spare for Tuesday’s jazz concert. She has been touring and performing at different venues and stadiums around the world with her current pit-stop being the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Kidjo will be performing live in concert with American saxophonist, Darren Rahn and Isaiah Katumwa in celebration of the International World Jazz Day.
“This is my first time in Uganda and I am very excited to finally be here. I am definitely looking forward to my stay in Kampala and I can’t wait to meet all my fans at the concert on Tuesday,” said Angelique Kidjo.
The singer, songwriter and activist is a woman of many talents who has earned a lot of respect not to mention an impressive music career with great influence around the world.
Her songs have been a household favourite since the 1990’s where her classic “Agolo” from the ‘Aye’ album frequently rang through many Ugandan events and parties. The album was a mega hit topping charts across the continent and later earning her a Grammy nomination.
In two days, the concert that is tailor made for fans of jazz afro-pop, reggae, gospel and classic music will have music lovers enjoy a night of back to back hits at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Tickets to the show are still on sale and go for Shs200,000 as ordinary and Shs4,000,000 for a table at the jazz exclusive concert.
